Blast Lung Injury
Aims to discern injury risks associated with different modalities of threats whether blast, ballistic and impacts. Finite element models of the human thorax were created to assess how different environmental factors impact the stress patterns in the lung during an extreme traumatic event. Trends in wave propagation, amplitude and duration were validated with scaled physical models of the thorax. Stress fields compared well with injury patterns reported in clinical CT imaging.
